M.S. in Nursing Admission Requirements
Admission to graduate study in nursing requires compliance with the admissions policies of the Graduate School and with the following standards of the School of Nursing
- Current Licensure as a registered nurse in the U.S.
- A baccalaureate degree from a National League for Nursing (NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited school which includes an upper-division major in nursing equivalent to the undergraduate nursing degree at NIU.
- A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 system) for the last 60 hours of the baccalaureate program, or completion of 15 or more semester hours of graduate work at an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.2 or better.
- A statement of overall career goals submitted as an example of professional writing skills. The statement should be one single-spaced typewritten page. It should address the student's desired field of study and rationale for how a graduate degree will fulfill desired career goals.
- The approval of the Graduate Admissions Committee of the School of Nursing.
