Degree Completion Program in Public Health

The B.S. completion program in public health provides a means by which applied health professionals can:

  • progress to supervisory or instructional positions requiring a baccalaureate degree
  • pursue career/position changes while retaining professional identity

To qualify, applicants must have an associate of applied science degree in one of the following health professions:

  • dental hygiene
  • respiratory care
  • radiologic technology 
  • long-term care administration 
  • health information technology 
  • nursing 
  • occupational therapy assistant 
  • speech-language pathology assistant 
  • surgical technology

With the consent of the departmental adviser, up to 25 semester hours of credit may be applied to the area of study in applied professional health sciences (the average is approximately 17-19 semester hours). The credit will be held in "escrow" and will be posted to the student's transcript upon completion of all designated 400-level course work for the public health major. In addition, the student will receive 7 semester hours of credit for clinical course work in the appropriate applied professional health science, as well as credit to be determined by the department based on professional course work of the student.

Applicants may also benefit by completing the Associate of Arts at a Community College as a dual admission student. Approximate time to completion for a full-time student is two years. For more information, check out our FAQ page or contact an adviser at (815) 753-1384.
